Watch Melissa McCarthy Play Sean Spicer on ‘SNL’

Just when you thought NBC’s Saturday Night Live couldn’t get any better with its political sketches, a famous comedic star stops by and blows everyone away.

No, I’m not talking about Alec Baldwin this time, though the cold open of this weekend’s SNL did see the 30 Rock alum step back into President Donald Trump’s shoes once again, so let’s start there.

In this sketch, Baldwin’s Trump is randomly calling foreign leaders and threatening to start wars with them. At the end, a grim-looking Steve Bannon (the real Bannon is Trump’s Chief Strategist) sits at the President’s desk while Baldwin sits at a smaller desk and plays with a child’s toy.

Watch that sketch below:

That alone is enough. SNL didn’t need to do anything else Trump-related and we would’ve loved it regardless.

But then they went even further by having Melissa McCarthy cameo as Press Secretary Sean Spicer. McCarthy portrayed Spicer as very angry. While she played that up a lot in the sketch, it does stem from the truth since Spicer tends to be very combative and stern during his press briefings.

It took the audience a moment to figure out who was playing Spicer, but once everyone realized that it was McCarthy, the studio audience and everyone else in America were loving every second of it. Words can’t do it justice, so just go right ahead and watch that sketch below:

I think it’s safe to say that this will go down as one of the best political sketches of the entire season.

So far, neither Trump nor Spicer have tweeted their thoughts on either sketch. It’ll be interesting to see if any reporters ask Spicer about it at the next briefing. And considering Trump is not a fan of SNL since he doesn’t have a sense of humor, only time will tell if he ends up speaking out about the brilliance of these sketches.

Speaking of Trump and SNL, Alec Baldwin himself will be hosting the next episode, airing February 11 at 11:35pm on NBC, so you can be sure that he will be playing Trump again.
